I was thrilled to be asked last September to be the new peripatetic art tutor at Brackenfield School, Harrogate. A role I gladly accepted . Each week we create art to fill a sketchbook.

Having taught for many years, I have witnessed the therapeutic side to my work for my students. Creativity is so calming, soothing and positive. It allows you to live in the moment, and detach from, loss, grief, stress, pain and anxiety. Creating art in a group context is fun, sociable, we eat too many chocolate biscuits, someone will always wash their brush in their freshly made cup of tea, stories and experiences are shared, and perhaps a new fulfilling hobby ensues.

Spring Arts & Crafts 2022

Art materials are being delivered to the studio and I am looking forward to developing some new arts and crafts for this Spring/Easter. Happy with this first idea, yarn wrapped twigs from the garden and hand marbled eggs, to add to a little Spring wood slice. I am always amazed by the fabulous ideas children come up with in my classes, I like to encourage them to let their imaginations soar!!!!!! |

Published December 2020When my son went to Australia in 2019, I decided to send him a weekly update about his cat Enzo. When Hugo arrived back in the UK he had kept all the letters. The nationwide lockdown due to the COVID 19 virus began in March 2020. All my teaching was on hold so I decided to write and illustrate series 2 of the Enzo Updates.
I began to post an Enzo Update a day on social media. I was surprised at the response, enthusiasm and interest. Readers frequently commented that is cheered them up in gloomy times and they always looked forward to the next post. The illustrative style settles in, the narrative changes and there are spelling mistakes and other errors, but I decided to leave them in and stick to the original artwork.

Brackenfield School 'Pots of Love' Painting Exhibition 2018

This year was the first of many Brackenfield School Painting Exhibitions. Over 2 days I helped 166 children to paint a mixed media collage. These where then framed and we hung them for an exhibition called 'Pots of Love' that family and friend could attend and buy the works of art.
We raised £1,300 for Dom's Charity. Looking forward to next years exhibition. The Children's artwork was amazing and all the Brackenfield staff were amazingly helpful and good fun was had by all! The Competition was kindly Judged by Andrew Stewart, owner of 108 Fine Art Cold Bath Road Harrogate. |
